04262017CM0943ResizeSPRINGFIELD – State Senator Terry Link (D-Vernon Hills) issued the following response to the governor’s press conference today regarding school funding reform:

“If Gov. Rauner really cares about the students, teachers and parents in Waukegan, then he will sign Senate Bill 1 as soon as it reaches his desk. Under the new evidence-based formula, Waukegan School District would receive $14.5 million more in funding.

Waukegan School District would receive $919 more per student under Senate Bill 1. That makes it one of 268 school districts across Illinois to actually get more money than Chicago Public Schools, a fact the governor fails to mention.

The children of Waukegan are not political talking points, governor. Sign the bill.”

Gurnee – State Senator Terry Link (D-Vernon Hills) issued the following statement in response to the governor’s visit to Lake County to assess the damage done by the devastating flooding that occurred this week:

“I am glad to see the governor has finally decided to come see the devastation that Gurnee, Lincolnshire and many other communities are facing. Our communities have been severely harmed by these floods and the need for relief is immediate. The last thing Lake County needs is a continued delayed reaction.

“Lake County is just now starting to repair the damage done and with more flooding on the way, I hope the governor realizes today that our needs are dire. I am hopeful that he can help us utilize any available resources to continue the relief effort.”

Dear Friends,

I am writing this letter to you as an apology for not being able to attend the events over the holiday weekend. I’ve always looked forward to the various summer events especially during this time of year, seeing old friends and making new ones.

Unfortunately, I’m stuck in Springfield still trying to get a balanced budget. I remain optimistic that we are nearing an agreement and I am committed to being part of a much-overdue solution to end this chaos.

I know people are frustrated and, trust me, I’m one of them. The Illinois Senate passed a balanced budget in May that cut more than $3 billion in government spending while providing stable funding for education and social services. I’ve been trying ever since to get the Illinois House and Governor Rauner sign on and make it the law.

I wish I could be there. But this is the job you elected me to do and I am doing everything I can to get it done. I wish you all the best Independence Day.
