SPRINGFIELD- State Senate Assistant Majority Leader Terry Link released the following statement: “I voted to approve parts of the state budget, because it is our duty to do so. My vote was aimed to contain the dramatic budget cuts proposed by Governor Rauner that will severely impact hundreds of residents within my district. I pledge to the Governor to embark in a constructive dialogue that will achieve a final product that is both a path to recover our fiscal footing and a tool to protect basic services our most vulnerable residents receive from the government.”

SPRINGFIELD. State Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan) passed legislation out of committee this week (House Bill 3531) that bans smoking tobacco in any area of a day care center.

According to the Federal Government there are not levels of exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke considered “safe”. In fact, second-hand smoke is the cause of hundreds of thousands of respiratory infections in children under 18 months every year.

“We have to protect our children, especially those in the earliest stages of their lives. Responsible adults choose the habits of their preference, but this cannot be above the rights of children to enjoy a healthy environment in a child care facility”, said Senator Link.

Link Floor May 12 RSPRINGFIELD. State Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan) passed legislation out of committee that will allow the installation of audio/video monitoring devices to enhance supervision of the elderly who live in nursing homes. House Bill 2462 passed the Senate’s Public Health Committee and was sent to the Senate floor for consideration.

“We should be confident that our loved ones receive the care they need and are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve,” said Link, who sponsored the bill in the Senate.
